Clinique makes a nice lip balm. If you’re really chapped and peeling, you might coat your lips well with petroleum jelly, let it sit for a few minutes, and then use a baby toothbrush to remove the flaky skin. Then follow up with balm of your choice.

The only thing that’s worked for me is Burt’s Bees Lip Balm. Have you tried that yet?

First things first…are you licking your lips a lot? Cause that is normally what causes it. Meg’s does this a lot. You have to stop that first because whatever you put on your lips–if you bite or lick your lips it’s gone pretty fast. I normally use carmex cause it’s tastes nasty and keeps me from doing the whole licking lips thing. Hope it goes away soon sweetie!
    Hugs,

I find Vaseline useful. I usually apply it to my lips an hour before I apply lipstick, and I also apply it before I go to bed.

Aloe vera gel is also good. So is drinking a lot of water. :)

Drink more water, don’t lick your lips.

I also brush off the excess with a toothbrush and slather on a thick layer of some mint stuff I got at B&BW at night.

I also like the chapstick with blue wrapper, don’t remember what it’s called, but it helps and isn’t goopy. I hate goopy.

Oh, YES on Burt’s Bee’s Lip Balm! I swear by it.

Burt’s Bees Lip Balm is good for preventing and soothing, but it never does much (for me) in the healing department. Slather vaseline on your lips in the day and for night time, Nivea Creme – just the basic stuff in a jar. Not tasty, but not repulsive, and works.

I love Neutrogena Lip Nutrition Vanilla Replenish Balm. Might not work well if you start nibbling on it, but my usual problem is remembering not to pick at the dry skin, so it’s great. And it smells yummy, which the boyfriend appreciates. :)

The only thing that’s ever worked for me is Sun Shades lip balm. Contains sunscreen, too. You can order it from melaleuca.com. – Charli http://www.charleneteglia.com

    Are you nursing?

Okay, now you’re gonna be grossed and so is everyone else. But think about it: This worked for your chapped nipples didn’t it? Yes, that’s right I’m talking breast milk. Get over it, because it works. There’s some kind of healing substance in there.

No, no! I don’t incorporate this into any eroticas. bleargh. slinking back into the pit of grossness..

thanks everyone for your comments. Sorry it’s taken so long for me to respond. I’ve been neglecting my blog :(

*hanging my head* And yes, I do lick my lips and I MUST stop that.

Kate- that’s actually a good suggestion about the breast milk. I’d forgotten the healing properties it had.

I’m going to try using just petroleum jelly. I think something I’ve been using (I believe it’s the Bath and Body stuff) has been actually drying my lips out. So I’m going to do just vaseline for awhile and see if that helps. Thanks for all of your advice. It’s interesing how many comments I got ;)

This reminds me of the joke about the two bedouins. They were walking through the desert, and one says to the other, “I have terrible chapped lips. What can I do about it?”
and the other one says, “I use camel shit.”
“Does it really help your chapped lips?” asks the first bedoin.
The second bedoin shrugs. “I don’t know. But it sure keeps me from licking them.”

Cocoabutter lipbalm from Walgreens. It’s .99 and the best lipbalm I’ve ever used. It does have a kind of weird strong cocoa smell, but still…Best. Lipbalm. Ever.

    Angie,

I work as a Medical Transcriptionist and I type Dermatology all the time. The one thing the dermatologist recommends for chapped lips most often is a product called “Aquaphor Ointment.” It’s actually a tube that can be found in the hand cream aisle at your local pharmacy. It’s a very thick ointment. Just a little on your lips a couple times a day for a couple days and you should see a major improvement.

OK, it’s August and hopefully you don’t have this problem anymore – but – just in case and for when it comes up again, check out http://www.armstrongskinaid.com They make a lip balm for cold sores and chapped lips that is all natural and, best of all, it works! This is a terrific product for all sorts of skin problems. Let me know if you try it.

About Me

Angela James

There is nothing worse than writing a bio. And writing one for your blog sidebar? Blech. Maybe you landed here via Google, followed me from Twitter (does that make you a stalker?) or maybe we met at a conference or you clicked a link from a comment I made at a blog you visited. Hopefully whatever I said didn't make you so mad you came looking for a picture to throw darts at (yep, that's me up above, in my favorite cowboy hat) but instead drove you to find out more about the amazingly witty and intelligent person behind the amazingly witty and intelligent comment.

However you found me, who you found is Angela James, executive editor of Carina Press, Harlequin's new digital-first press. I'm passionate about digital publishing, my mission is to drag people to the digital dark side, one reader (and author) at a time. I'm also Brianna's mommy. At my blog you'll get an odd mix of personal and professional posts about parenting, publishing, books, cooking, sewing and life in general. Come back often, comment frequently and go green—buy ebooks!

Please note that this is my personal blog and my opinions are neither that of Harlequin, nor representative of their opinions.

Find Me Here

First, I blog once or twice a week at theCarina Press blog, talking about the job, the authors, the books and other things Carina Press. And, of course, you can always find me on Twitter. Or Facebook, if you prefer (mostly the same content, one feeds the other). I also run the Carina Press Twitter and Facebook accounts. Social media, it's where it's at (well, it's where I'm at, anyway).
