Okay, the first month of Keishon’s TBR challenge. I’m not setting my goals too high. I figure if I do one book a month, I’m doing well. I’m going to use the same format for my posts that I used for the old TBR challenges I hosted here, with a few additions to the format.

Year published: 2007
Genre: Urban fantasy/Fantasy
Why did you get this book? I have no idea. I think it was because I saw it discussed on Linnea Sinclair’s yahoo group, but I’m not sure. I may have had it before then. It’s the genre/type of book I’d pick up on my own.
Do you like the cover? Eh. I will say that the cover wouldn’t have drawn me to this book in the bookstore, as some covers do.
Did you enjoy the book? I did!
Was the author new to you and would you read something by this author again? I believe this was the author’s debut book and I’ll definitly be buying the sequel, Armed and Magical
Are you keeping it or passing it on? I actually have two versions of this book. A dead tree version and an ebook. I got the dead tree format first, but I quickly realized I’m much more likely to read it in ebook. So I’ll keep the ebook version and pass the paper version on.
Why did you wait so long to read it? You know, I think I’ve started it and put it down a few times, but never got past the first few lines. I have no idea why but I think part of that has to do with originally owning it in paper format.
Anything else? I know a lot has been said recently about the popularity of urban fantasy and I have to admit, it’s my preferred reading at this point. I see mostly romance for work, so I get burnt on reading straight romance. And I’ve always loved paranormal. Even 20 years ago when I had to scrounge for every paranormal I could find, it was my favorite. That hasn’t changed. But I’ve also loved fantasy as long as I can remember. David Eddings

I saw this at the library last year. The back blurb looked interesting so I brought it home. But it didn’t hook me straight off and I took it back to the library. Since then I’ve read quite a few favorable reviews like yours. I’ve been reconsidering my decision and I think I’ll have to try it again.
I think that instead of reducing my TBR pile, TBR day is going to make me add to it.

I like the action and general ass-kicking that I get from an urban fantasy story, though I do like there to be a solid romance story in there too. Haven’t read Lisa’s book yet, but appreciate your review.
