I’ve been thinking a lot about reviews, as have many of us, thanks to all the debate that’s been raging between authors, readers, bloggers, etc. I’ve edited over 300 books, trust me, I’ve had some bad reviews directed specifically at me, the editor. Sometimes they sting. Sometimes they make me angry. But I have to [...]

1. When you start your tweet with the @ symbol, your whole tweet stream doesn’t see what you’re tweeting. Starting with the @ creates a reply. Not a broadcast to your tweetstream. So only the person you “replied” to and those who follow both of you will see it. In other words: starting a promotional [...]

The fall session of Before You Hit Send is starting next week. This looks like it will be a smaller, more intimate-sized class than previous sessions, so more opportunity to get my feedback on your work. I like that! A few questions that I’ve gotten recently: When is the next session? The next session won’t [...]

So there I was a few weeks ago, on 5th Avenue, sitting in a Tommy Hilfiger store, innocently reading my tweetstream while I wait for Jane to try on some white linen pants when I come across this tweet: And then this one: And laughed so hard, people actually stopped and stared. At me. On [...]

The next Before You Hit Send workshop starts next Monday, July 11th and the cost is $35. Starting in the fall, subsequent workshop prices will be rising to $49. As I’ve developed and given this course, attendees have, without fail, told me it’s underpriced. My reply has always been that I fear it will be [...]

I saved the best for last. The Backstage Pass. I paid an extra $100 to do this 2 hour experience and it was SO worth it. So worth it. I loved every minute of the experience, getting to feed and pet the rhinos, feed the flamingos, and get pictures taken with the cheetah and the [...]

This day is for Shannon Stacey, who tells me she loves polar bears. Some of my favorite pictures are in this group! Also, I think the baby hippo may have been one of my favorite exhibits. He was so cute and playful. I wanted to spend more time watching him, but the viewing area was [...]

If yesterday was the day of monkeys, today is the day of birds. Mostly flamingos because I spent a lot of time watching the baby flamingos. I’d never seen a baby flamingo before! I should also share the “Backstage Pass” photo of me feeding the flamingos. Love!

San Diego Zoo: Day Two of Sharing

Comments Off

Today I’m going to share some of the monkey pictures with you. Yes, there were enough pictures of monkeys to show only those in one day. Remember, I was at the zoo by myself. No child to tell me to “Hurry up, Mommy, let’s gooooo” so I could stop and watch whatever I wanted for [...]

About Me

Angela James

There is nothing worse than writing a bio. And writing one for your blog sidebar? Blech. Maybe you landed here via Google, followed me from Twitter (does that make you a stalker?) or maybe we met at a conference or you clicked a link from a comment I made at a blog you visited. Hopefully whatever I said didn't make you so mad you came looking for a picture to throw darts at (yep, that's me up above, in my favorite cowboy hat) but instead drove you to find out more about the amazingly witty and intelligent person behind the amazingly witty and intelligent comment.

However you found me, who you found is Angela James, executive editor of Carina Press, Harlequin's new digital-first press. I'm passionate about digital publishing, my mission is to drag people to the digital dark side, one reader (and author) at a time. I'm also Brianna's mommy. At my blog you'll get an odd mix of personal and professional posts about parenting, publishing, books, cooking, sewing and life in general. Come back often, comment frequently and go green—buy ebooks!

Please note that this is my personal blog and my opinions are neither that of Harlequin, nor representative of their opinions.

Find Me Here

First, I blog once or twice a week at theCarina Press blog, talking about the job, the authors, the books and other things Carina Press. And, of course, you can always find me on Twitter. Or Facebook, if you prefer (mostly the same content, one feeds the other). I also run the Carina Press Twitter and Facebook accounts. Social media, it's where it's at (well, it's where I'm at, anyway).
