2005 Books Read: 4 1/2

4 1/2. *sad sigh* Just burning up the pages reading. Maybe if I wasn’t spending all my time reading blogs I’d have more books completed. Maybe.

Anyhow, I finished J.D. Robb’s Survivor in Death this morning. She is one of the few authors that I will still glom in hardcover because I love this series. I know alot of people were disappointed with her last In Death book but I recall liking the focus that was put on her relationships. There was some marital tension between her and Roarke that made them seem a little more real and a little less like perfect fictional characters.

But in this book, Survivor in Death, there seems to be more of a focus on the emotional turmoil of the characters that shows some very real character development. The struggles that Eve, Roarke, and several others in the book exhibit while dealing with loss, grief, and past traumas was touching and resonated with something in me.

The mystery was actually semi-plausible, the “bad guy” could easily be a real person with an entirely believable reason (however insane) for committing murder. The book was a compelling read which re-captured for me some of the magic of the earlier books of the series. It’s always nice to see an author seem to re-cover her stride in a series that has had some people wondering if it had gone on too long.

This book gets an A in my book and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to fans of the series.
