Though it’s been a few weeks since I finished reading Lover Awakened, I haven’t had a chance to do a review. Well, actually, I don’t intend to do a review at all. For one thing, there are way too many things that happen in this book that could be revealed with spoilers. So I’m just going to share my thoughts on it, without specifics.
It’s no secret that I’m a gushing JR fangirl. I adore these books, I adored Dark Lover when it was first released, I made everyone I know buy a copy, I blogged about it, I emailed JR and gushed, I interviewed her for my blog…see, I’m a gushing fangirl. But that said, I’m still able to know when an author I love has written a bad book. (just ask those authors who I’ve signed to contracts…and then rejected later submissions from them. I’m not afraid to say I don’t like it!).
But that is not the case with this book. Oh. My. God. Seriously? This is the best book yet. I loved Dark Lover, I liked Lover Eternal, though I had a harder time connecting with Mary and Rhage and didn’t feel as in tune with the story as with Dark Lover(and yes, I told JR that after I read it. See? Honest.) But Lover Awakened gripped me by the throat and didn’t let go. The book had me on a rollercoaster ride of emotions…I rarely cry when I read. Lover Awakened caused a few teary moments.
I’ve heard people ask how JR is going to “redeem” a hero like Zsadist, so damaged and almost broken. I’m not giving anything away but I will say that JR takes you on a journey and she makes you believe. The fantabulous thing about this book is that all of the Brothers are given even more depth…more pain…more turbulence in their lives…and no one is safe, who’s life will be disrupted next?
Now I’m waiting for the next book, Butch’s story. Holy crap, you think the wait for Z’s book is hard? After the events of Lover Awakened, it just gets worse. Write faster JR!! And thank you ma’am for writing a story that took me away from my everyday life, for a short time. May I have another?
