I’m attending the New Jersey Romance Writers conference this weekend. I’ll be doing editor appointments on Saturday. That’s its own form of torture because I will be the only editor there from an epublisher, and since we’re fairly new, I have visions of sitting there all by myself for 3 hours, lolol.
Then, Saturday afternoon, I agreed to take part in the editor/agent panel, basically a Q&A session. And again, I find myself wondering if anyone is really going to care what I have to say (see? Editors can be insecure too :loser:) even though I thinks Samhain is awesome and everyone should want to write for us. Still it’s like being in high school and wondering if I’ll have anyone to sit with at lunch, lmao. I amuse myself.
Anyway! I happened to mention that I was asked for a brief bio, to be used to introduce me at the editor/agent panel. We all know how hard it is to write a bio, let alone one you want used to introduce in a panel of agents such as Nadia Cornier and editors from St. Martin’s like Rose Hilliard.
This was the response I got (writer remains anonymous but you can probably take a wild stab at it and have a 1 in 4 chance of getting it right):
Angela James is the editor of Jaci Burton, Melani Blazer, Shannon Stacey, Mandy Roth and some other people. She hates serial commas and enjoys weird flavors in her coffee. When not editing Jaci Burton, Melani Blazer, Shannon Stacey, Mandy Roth and some other people, Ms. James can be found cuddling with her daughter, shopping for shoes and chasing her husband around the house with a lamp.
lolol. Okay, that was good for a laugh, but probably not appropriate for an introductory bio.
So I came up with something a little different, though the first one is a lot more fun, this is probably more appropriate as an introduction for a panel. *sigh*
A former harem princess, Duchess of York and globe-trotting superhero, Angela James lived an extensive fantasy life thanks to the world of books. But she settled for the job of Executive Editor at Samhain Publishing, a relatively new publisher on the scene, but fast becoming well-known in the epublishing arena. Having been with Samhain Publishing since their doors opened, Angela is an enthusiastic and proud supporter of electronic publishing. Home to authors such as Lucy Monroe, Lilith Saintcrow, Shelley Bradley, Lora Leigh and Jaci Burton, Samhain Publishing offers authors a place to write in a diverse array of genres in both fiction and non-fiction.
What do you think? Too cheesy? Missing something? Feedback is welcome. But unless you intend to write me a whole new bio, please, I beg you, don’t tell me the whole thing sucks!
