Today on my playgroup board, there was a post by one of the women. In it, she admitted that she slept in the bed last night while her husband slept on the couch, because he wasn’t feeling well and didn’t want to wake her. She also, in the same post, mentioned how she doesn’t like it when he breathes on her at night because it’s like breathing someone’s recycled air.

In the course of this post, I mentioned that I feel somewhat the same about the recycled air thing after someone mentioned “stinky nighttime breath”. Ew.

But here’s where my reality sometimes interrupts the fantasy. I also said that sometimes, when I’m watching a movie or reading a novel, and the characters wake up in the morning and exchange deep, meaningful kisses I am always thinking about the morning breath. I’ve read a couple books where the heroine gets self conscious about it and runs off to brush her teeth and dude, that’s totally me, lolol. There are no deep kisses being exchanged with my husband until we’ve both been friendly with the Colgate and our toothbrushes.

So then I got to thinking, are there other things that I can’t let go of to believe in the fantasy? One is the use of a condom. We’ve talked about that on this blog before and yes, no condom use does give me pause and my reality intrudes on the fantasy with thoughts of pregnancy and STDs. But I’ve already gone there so I tried to think of even more examples.

I could only think of one other example off the top of my head. When I’m reading or editing erotic romance, and food is brought into play and the hero smears something sugary or sweet on the heroine’s…nether regions (I’m thinking like honey, jam, maraschino cherrios and fruit slices as examples I’ve seen) all I can think about is that poor woman’s resulting yeast infection. Because we all know that sugar introduced to that area makes for a great yeast environment, right? So anyway, yeah, food in the privates kind of kills my mood ๐Ÿ˜‰

I just know there are more out there, things from reality that break the fantasy for me in books and/or movies. Can anyone think of any others?
