Thanks to a post on Dear Author a few weeks back, I got an Advanced Reading Copy of Lord of the Fading Lands by C.L. Wilson. Because I read on my Ebookwise far more often than I read an actual paper copy of anything, I hadn’t read it yet but then Jane asked me during a conversation last week if I had read it, and I felt guilty because I wanted to read it but again, that whole paper versus ebook thing. So last night I picked it up around 10pm to start reading (*note to self* WHY do you start reading a brand new book so late at night?) But then I realized Coupling was on so I had to watch that first, because I was in the mood for some laughs. So, at 10:45 at night, I got down to the serious business of reading this book. But I’m not going to finish it.
Dammit. Dammit. Dammit. Let me just note here that I am a fast reader, so I made it through a good half of the book (at least) before I finally forced myself to go to bed at 12:30 because I realized I was starting to skim just to find out what happened next since I knew bedtime was looming. I went to bed wishing I could stay up all night and read. I woke up this morning wondering if it was acceptable to play hooky from work (even if I do work from home) and finish it. I am loving this book so much, I don’t want to wait to find out what happens. But then realization sunk in…I don’t want to wait to find out what happens but…if I finish it, I’m going to have to wait until October 30th for the second one. Torture! Agony! So I’m looking at this book sitting next to me and thinking…maybe it’s better if I don’t finish it. I can just wait. Read it on October 29th so I can move right on to the next one. Because I can already tell that’s what I’m going to want to be able to do and I’m not sure if I can stand an almost two month wait between books. The one problem with getting an early ARC.
So, I’ll just keep this next to me here. Maybe I’ll let myself read like…a page a day or something. But in the meantime, if you love fantasy, if you love romance, do yourself a favor and go pre-order this book, and the sequel, Lady of Light and Shadows. Fans of Shana Abe will adore this book. *I* adore this book.
