Happy Halloween!

It’s still early afternoon and I’m already exhuasted. I stayed up late working because I knew today would be mostly shot. Yesterday was a wash for work, too, because I had to take Brianna to her 3 year check up. So late nights have been called for, to keep up.

This morning I went and worked out then headed to Brianna’s daycare where I was going to just stop and watch their Halloween parade. Ha. I finally left an hour and a half later. Good thing I went. They needed the extra adult bodies. Her daycare is on a college campus and they took the kids (all dressed up) through each of the buildings, trick or treating. Each kid ended up with two bags full of loot. I helped wrangle my own child and another little girl, so by the end of the hour long walk, I was hauling four bags of treats, one witch’s hat, a fairy wand and a fairy wreath. And a camera. I think I could have skipped the gym work out, if I’d known I’d be getting that much exercise!

The kids had a great time and they really came away with a ton of stuff. Toys, hair bobs, playdoh, bubbles, candy, cookies, popcorn, pretzels, stickers and soo much more. We could skip trick or treating tonight and I wouldn’t feel guilty at all! But it’s not to be. I have to pick Brianna up from daycare this afternoon and head over to my in-laws. We trick or treat every year in their neighborhood (though they’re moving in a few weeks so this is the last year) and this year they’re having a Halloween/going away party. Then we’re leaving Brianna with them for the night and heading out for date night. I’m sure our favorite bar will be crazy since there’s a costume contest for cash prizes. Did I mention that I’m already in need of a nap?

This year we seem to really have gotten into the spirit of Halloween. We decorated, carved pumpkins, went to a pumpkin patch, did a hayride, did three or four local celebrations. It’s fun to have a toddler in my area, at this time of the year, because there’s something to do every weekend for almost two months. We’re not going to know how to act once Halloween is over!

Have a safe, happy and fun Halloween!

For those who think epublishers hire just anyone…

I laugh at you because I know of at least one epublisher who doesn’t.

Yesterday I was catching up on my email in the employment inbox. Sending out tests, answering emails, looking at tests and entering all of it on my spreadsheet (which I use totrack which stage of the testing process the applicant is on, and at which stage I didn’t hire them).

As I did that, I looked over the spreadsheet and starting doing some mental math. Since we’ve started keeping the spreadsheet (some time early in 2007, so less than a year) we’ve had just over 450 applicants for the final line editor position. Of those applicants, we’ve hired…eight. Yeah. That’s us, taking any old riff-raff off the street.

SunnyD adult drink

I invented a “new” drink tonight. I like amaretto but amaretto sours are usually too much sweet and sour mix for me. So I invented my own drink. And when you look at one of the ingredients, it’s soooo obvious I have a kid.

1 oz. amaretto
1 1/2 – 2oz sweet and sour
1 oz SunnyD
seltzer water to taste (I like more because I like it to be less sweet).

Shake and serve over crushed ice.

Honestly, I’m sure there’s this exact recipe out there somewhere, probably. Just calling for orange juice. The SunnyD, I’m thinking, is all a mom-thing 😉

Makes me laugh every time

Old School was on last night as Josh flipped through the channels. He got there just as this scene came on and said, “Honey, look, your favorite scene!” I looked, thinking there was no way I would laugh at it again, but as soon as I looked at the TV, I started laughing before it even got to the good “part”. 😉

Is it Monday yet?

It’s not quite 8am here. I went to bed at 1am thanks to a killer book I was reading (not listed in my sidebar) but sadly, I’ve been up for just over 2 hours already, thanks to my toddler’s whacked internal clock. In that time, I’ve dealt with toddler bodily functions, cleaned up cat crap, cat throw up, stopped a cat from peeing on a grocery bag (yes, clearly I have a cat who has problems and a vet visit is in his future next week) and wiped a ton of toddler snot. My God, who knew one tiny body could produce so much snot.

All of that in two hours and I have a full day of this to look forward to. Is it naptime yet?
