Last week I was in Borders (which is an experience itself since there’s not one within a couple hours of me and I adore Borders) and I had a gift card to spend. I went in thinking I really didn’t need any books and that I’d probably buy Brianna some books (though, to be honest, she sure as heck doesn’t need any either, but it’s still fun to buy them for her).
But then I started browsing. I can’t even remember the last time I browsed in a bookstore (since I buy mostly ebooks, but otherwise print from Amazon or Paperback Swap). They had a book by Monica McCarty on the endcap–proving that endcap placement does sell books. At least to me. I realized it was like the second or third in a “series” so I hunted down the first one, Highlander Untamed, and brought it home with me.
No long reviews here, but I started it last night and stayed up way too late to finish it. I don’t read as much historical romance as I used to, though you might note I did re-read a few old Julie Garwood books in the past few weeks, but I really enjoyed this book. It’s simply a good story, with characters you can relate to. It’s the type of book that would make a good comfort read, because it’s a little sexy, there’s not a huge amount of angst, the secondary characters are enjoyable and while it might be a teeny bit predictable with it’s plot/villains and ultra-gorgeous protaganists, that’s the beauty of the book, in my opinion. Actually, my only real quibble was the line “you want me to make you come?” which the hero says to the heroine (in a book set in 1600). Maybe a line a little before its time 😉
Anyhow, if you enjoy an easy, fun, slightly sexy historical with characters who are real and yet…just a little over the top…actually, if you like Julie Garwood and her Highland books, you’ll probably enjoy this one. I did! You can see more about this book at Amazon.
