51G3H55KrcL._SL160_ I’ve been using this cookbook, Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day, for about a year now, and I like the basic Boule recipe for both bread and rolls. But there are times when I wished the book had and did two things. One, I wish there was an index at the back that directed you to where each basic Boule recipe is used. Like, if I can use the recipe in the sweet rolls, I wish the index would include the sweet rolls in a list of recipes for the basic Boule. But it doesn’t, and so I have to page through the cookbook and look at each recipe to see if I can adapt it using the Buole recipe.

The other thing I wish is that the book used just one basic dough recipe and expanded all other recipes from there. But I think that might be wishful thinking, since possibly there just aren’t that many things you can do with the basic recipe.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I like this cookbook and if you’re a casual bread and roll maker, this cookbook is for you. Keep in mind, though, that the breads and rolls you get from this are going to be slightly denser and crustier than say a french or italian loaf. But it’s also super easy to make!

If you do have this cookbook, make sure you check out the authors’ errors page, because there were a few errors that people have reported over the years or the authors have found, that actually make a difference while you’re preparing the recipes! Errors are different in the different printings.

Now, though I love this cookbook and the bread, I’m wondering if anyone has successfully used any other bread cookbooks?
